TYO 2020: for the love of music

Musicians in TYO instrumental ensembles have the opportunity to rehearse weekly with exceptional conductors, tutors and mentors, as well as performing in at least three TYO concerts each year. There are catered entry points to suit almost every stage of musical development and some ensembles have the opportunity to tour for concert engagements around Tasmania  always a highlight for those involved!

TYO's 2020 program features many familiar ensembles plus some new opportunities the TYO Sinfonietta and a professionally mentored Chamber Ensembles program for our senior players among them. Young regional players have additional access to scholarship opportunities; plus, as always, young musicians who successfully audition for one TYO ensemble have the option of taking up a vacant position in a second ensemble  or singing in a TYO chorale!  at no additional cost.

Audition registrations are now open for instrumental ensembles: please go to our auditions page for information then register for an audition

TYO Sinfonietta

Musicians in the TYO Sinfonietta range in age from 10 to 16. Many are already experienced performers but for some, their participation in the TYO Sinfonietta is their first experience of playing in a full orchestra. To ensure young players are fully supported in their instrumental development, this orchestra runs to a 'one in four model' with every fourth rehearsal featuring a sectional with specialist mentors, followed by a tutti session with the mentors sitting in. Senior players in this orchestra are challenged with section leadership roles. The orchestra explores both traditional and more recent repertoire.
